Are all fractional co2 lasers and their results the same?

Fractional laser treatment is a non-invasive treatment that uses a device to deliver a laser beam divided into thousands of microscopic treatment zones that target a fraction of the skin at a time, analogous to a photographic image being enhanced or altered pixel by pixel.

How to treat hypopigmentation caused by the topical Elidel (pimecrolimus)?

Elidel is a steroid-free cream containing a 1% strength of the topical immunomodulator pimecrolimus. It was specifically developed as a treatment for atopic dermatitis and is approved for use in children as young as 2 years of age. As mentioned by Dr Chin, Elidel is not known to cause hypopigmentation. In fact, it has been used to treat hypopigmentation for example in the case of vitiligo with the goal to replenish the lost melanocytes by immigration from the hair follicle and to restore the normal function of melanogenesis by residual melanocytes.

What can I do about bruising after Rejuran treatment? (photo)

It is not uncommon to develop bruises post needle injection treatment on the skin. These are suggestions one can do to reduce bruising. Things to do: First 24 hours Immediately post-procedure, put an ice pack and perform cold compression on the area suspected bruising to reduce blood flow around the area. This can prevent the bruise from being as apparent and reduce soft tissue swelling. Ice the potentially bruise area for 10 minutes at a time.

How does Vanquish Me compare with Coolsculpting for the lower body?

The main concept behind Vanquish ME and CoolSculpting is quite similar -- their technology is used to destroy fat cells so that they can be eliminated from the body system. The difference between the two lies in the type of technology used. Vanquish ME uses focused-field radiofrequency technology to heat up fat tissue to a point in which fat cells experience apoptosis (cell death). This way, fat is targeted selectively and disrupted efficiently. CoolSculpting destroys fat cells by freezing them (cryolipolysis).

How does my need to wear spectacles affect me post-threadlift or nose fillers?

This is an extremely common question I get from my patients after a nose procedure. There is no absolute right answer as to when you can start wearing spectacles after nose dermal fillers or nose thread lift. For nose thread lift, I generally allow my patients to wear spectacles unless there is serious bruising, swelling or discomfort post-procedure. If you would like to wear spectacles, do avoid wearing them for lengthy periods. I always advise my patients to alternate the use of contact lens and spectacles during their post-procedure recovery period.

What are potential complications if nose threads are performed after fillers?

It is common to have both nose dermal fillers and nose thread lift procedure to be done concurrently. Both work well for nose reshaping but are used differently based on one's pre-existing nose condition and desired effect. When I attend to my patients during their initial assessment, I will differentiate their desired nose reshaping effect amenable to dermal fillers and/or thread insertion.

Are Botox injections safe for use in the trapezius?

Botulinum toxin injection on the trapezius is safe if it's done by a trained medical practitioner. Botulinum toxin type A is a neurotoxin that "relaxes" muscle through inhibition of acetylcholine release at the neuromuscular junction [1]. Botulinum toxin was first used to treat patients with strabismus by an American ophthalmologist and approved by US FDA in 1989 for the treatment of blepharospasm and strabismus [2].

What are the benefits of getting a combination of Rejuran and dermal fillers as compared to getting only one type of treatment?

Yes, most physicians do combine both dermal fillers and skin boosters like Rejuran for overall skin rejuvenation and face contouring effect. Rejuran, a new healing treatment made of polynucleotides (PN) and polydeoxyribonucleotide (PDRN) derived from salmon DNA, has been touted as the new facial aesthetic treatment that is both effective and helps in improving the skin’s own regenerative properties.

Which treatments can treat both dark eye circle and hyperpigmentation?

First, we would have to determine the cause of dark eye circles. Many are multifactorial which include: genetics, allergy rhinitis/sinusitis, hyperpigmentation, loss of volume due to fat loss or bone demineralization, loss of elasticity causing loose skin under the eyes etc. A thorough medical history and skin assessment are an extremely important factor to achieve a desirable result for dark eye circles. Patient with allergy rhinitis/sinusitis will need to be treated medically with antihistamine and sometimes referral to an ENT specialist.

For cases of hyperpigmentation and redness after an infini treatment, what are some ways I can use to reduce their appearance?

First of all, I would advise you to return to your treating physician for a follow-up review session to diagnose your current skin condition post skin resurfacing treatment. My following answer will be based on your possible “at-risk” post-INFINI (Fractional RF with micro-needling) causing PIH. Melanocytes are the cells responsible for pigmentations in the skin. Their activity can be increased due to inflammation. When skin becomes hyperpigmented from an injury, it is named post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation or PIH. This is particularly prevalent in darker skin patients.

Is it safe to get subcision treatments after getting Radiesse dermal fillers?

It is perfectly safe to perform subcision treatment to your skin with prior CaHA fillers injection at anytime. Filler injection can be performed right after a subcision treatment for depressed acne. Subcision works well for rolling and boxcar acne scars as it breaks fibrous bands tethering the surface skin to the deeper layers. The fillers help to lift the skin up, preventing further scar formation around an indented area again. Biostimulant dermal fillers such as Radiesse, Ellanse and Sculptra are good choices of products.

How do Radiesse and Ellanse compare in restoring cheek and jaw volume?

Both Radiesse and Ellanse are biostimulant dermal fillers. These collagen-stimulating fillers give dual effects when they are injected into your skin. They give instant lifting and volume enhancement while inducing collagen production over the course of 3-6 months. I use Ellanse to restore volume to cheeks, temples, jawlines and contour the nose and chin. Radiesse is a synthetically produced product which consists of 30% Calcium Hydroxylapatite (CaHA) microspheres suspended in a sodium carboxy-methylcellulose resorbable aqueous gel carrier (70%).
