Should I see my orthodontist straight away if my braces are preventing me from biting normally?

Doctor's Answer

There can be situations where your orthodontist will purposely prevent your teeth from biting together. This may be done with the help of bite turbos or bite buttons.

This is usually done at the beginning of treatment, usually if there is a deep overbite that would break brackets off the teeth or if there is significant tooth wear of the front teeth.

As treatment progresses, your bite will be monitored and the final finishing stages of treatment are for detailing the bite. The bite turbos will be removed at this stage. You should have bilateral even bite pressure on all your back teeth at the end of treatment.
