What are recommended treatments to achieve a slimmer face (photo)?

Hi, In my practice, I often get requests for a more V-shaped face. The treatments that I would recommend would depend on the face shape and age of the person. For younger patients, I would often recommend botox jaw reduction to slim the muscle over the jaw area and filler to the nose, midface or the front of the cheeks and chin for a more projected, sharper face. For anti-ageing, Ultherapy is a good choice. Ultherapy is an US FDA-approved procedure, which utilises focuses ultrasound energy for non-surgical skin tightening. It is effective for tightening loose cheek skin to lift bulky cheeks.

What anti-aging treatments are recommended for a 40 year old lady who has never undergone any aesthetic procedures before?

Hi Ming Lim, Ageing generally results in pigmentation or issues related to sagginess. While it is difficult to pinpoint treatment specific to your skin, I will try to introduce several more widely accepted and effective treatments. 1. Ultherapy is a non-invasive, no downtime, US FDA-approved procedure for skin lifting and tightening. Ultherapy uses focused ultrasound that bypasses the superficial skin and delivers energy deep within those skin structures to help stimulate new collagen production, which then helps lift, firm, and tighten the skin of the eye, cheeks, jaw, face, neck, and chest.

What causes large pores, and how to permanently get rid of them? (photo)

Pores are very important structures within the skin. They allow oil and sweat to be released from the skin for lubrication and temperature regulation. However, in certain people, it may look more prominent. Likely factors leading to larger pores include: 1. Gender: Men have genetically bigger pores, which contribute to the courser, more masculine look in men. 2. Poor skin quality due to ageing is a big contributor to large pores as the size of the pore opening is highly dependent on the quality of the supporting skin. Loss of skin elasticity leads to tired skin and flabby pores. 3.

How to fix overfilled fillers at my cheeks?

Some fillers like hyaluronic acid, tend to absorb water within one week of treatment, causing some concern in patients who may not be aware that this may happen. The swelling is generally more obvious in the morning and can be improved by gentle pressure or a mild cold compress. For cases in which there is overfill, hyaluronic acid fillers such as Juvederm, Belotero, and Restylane can be dissolved by a doctor using hyaluronidase (a naturally occurring enzyme found within our skin).

How effective is Coolsculpt for losing tummy fats after childbirth?

CoolSculpting is effective for reduction of tummy fat. It is approved by the US FDA for the treatment of the tummy. The CoolSculpting procedure safely delivers precisely controlled cooling to gently and effectively target the fat cells underneath the skin. Treated fat cells are frozen, then die. Over time, your body naturally processes the fat and eliminates these dead cells, leaving a more sculpted tummy. Most studies show a 20 to 25 percent reduction of fat over the treatment area after one treatment.

How does Ellanse dermal filler compare against other types of fillers for lifting and volume loss?

Ellansé is a hybrid bio-stimulating filler consisting of a short-lasting filler component called CMC (carboxymethyl cellulose) and a long-lasting biostimulator called PCL (polycaprolactone). When Ellansé is injected into the skin, the CMC provides an immediate lift to volume deficient areas. PCL triggers collagen production in the skin while CMC is rapidly reabsorbed. Biostimulation leads to a long-lasting rejuvenation of between 1-4 years depending on the preparation used.

What are alternative treatments to Botox and HIFU for saggy cheeks? (photo)

Other than HIFU cheeks and Botox of jaw muscle, non- or minimally-invasive treatments for sagging cheeks include: 1. Lifting with dermal fillers is commonly referred to as a liquid face-lift. Dermal fillers like Juvederm, Radiesse, and Restylane can be used to enhance chin sharpness, replace lost volume of the cheeks in order to smooth out the facial wrinkles and lift skin. Replacing lost facial volume from above, lifts the cheeks below, therefore reducing facial sagginess. You can find more information about dermal fillers in my article here 2.

Will I be left with worse volume loss after HA fillers are reabsorbed?

There will no be worsening of volume loss after resorption of the hyaluronic acid filler. Natural hyaluronic acid is constantly produced and broken down in the skin. Studies have shown that modern hyaluronic acid fillers have good tissue integration with the skin with little ill effects. Volume loss is due to age-related, localised reduction of facial fat and bone loss, aggravated by loosening of the skin. This ageing process will not be affected by filler treatment, so there is no need to worry about this.

Can Botox of the Masseter muscle result in bone loss, and should I be concerned?

There is no need to worry. There is no evidence that Botox of the masseter (jaw muscle) causes bone loss. Botox works by weakening the masseter over a period of 3-4 months to cause a reduction in muscle size. It does not affect the bone in any way. Cheers!

Are there effective alternatives to Botox for getting a V shape face?

Different people have different face shapes and different requirements. Treatments should, therefore, be customised. Frequently used minimally-invasive methods include: Dermal fillers like Juvederm, Radiesse, and Restylane can be used to enhance chin sharpness and replace lost volume of the cheeks, temples or forehead to sculpt the face. Ultherapy is a US-FDA approved lifting and tightening treatment using focused ultrasound. Ultherapy helps create a v-shaped face by tightening skin through stimulation of new collagen production in the deep supportive layers of the skin.

How do I get rid of a double chin, and how much does it cost?

Having a double chin is a common concern. Various factors can give rise to the appearance of a double chin: 1. skin laxity of the neck and lower aspect of the face. This could be due to ageing and sun exposure. 2. excessive fat accumulation under the chin. This is likely to be genetic in nature. 3. an underdeveloped chin and jawline. This results in a short upper neck which gives the appearance of a double chin especially at certain movements and at certain angles. Depending on the cause, the following treatments are commonly done: 1.

Will Rejuran further improve my skin if it is already in good condition?

Hi Yu Ting, Rejuran is an injectable anti-aging product which is approved to be used in Singapore. It has many rejuvenation properties including skin tightening, improving the appearance of wrinkle, pores, and acne scars. Most people would see some skin tightening especially over the cheeks and around the eyes after three treatments, done two to four weeks apart. My recommendation is to go for treatment only if there are issues which merit attention. If you feel your skin condition is good enough already, perhaps you may want to look at some other treatments. Cheers! Dr.

When is Q switch laser the best treatment for acne scars, and can it be combined with other treatments?

Compared to other lasers, most Q-switched lasers have limited effectiveness for treatment of acne scars. Better treatment options include ablative and non-ablative skin resurfacing lasers. These lasers improve the appearance of acne scars by replacing scarred skin tissue with new skin over a series of laser treatments. They also induce collagen to contract acne scars to make it look smaller. Ablative lasers include Fractional CO2 and Fractional Erbium lasers. These lasers are effective but have slightly longer downtime of about five days, as compared to non-ablative lasers.

What is the best treatment for fine lines under the eyes? (photo)

There are a number of causes that form fine lines and wrinkles. Two main causes are the loss of elasticity and collagen in the skin and the loss of underlying supportive tissue like fat, muscle, and bone. Here are various treatments to reduce fine lines and dark eye circles: a. Botox works by relaxing the muscles that cause wrinkles. Botox can reduce the lines between your eyes and diminish those smile lines near your eyes. Botox will take five to seven days to take effect and usually lasts three to four months. b.
