In that particular context, where a person has a stomachache and goes to the toilet but there’s nothing, I think IBS is a very common culprit. Among other symptoms, other than what I mentioned -- there are two types of IBS. You could have the constipation-predominant type, or you could have the diarrhoea-predominant type, which means that you get a lot of constipation or a lot of diarrhoea.

And then you have a third group, which doesn’t have any of these, but have the symptoms of what you described. They feel like they need to go, but they go to the toilet and nothing comes out. Sometimes they pass out mucus stools, and sometimes they have tummy pains, sometimes there are regular positions that may be better after they go to the toilet or after they let out some gas from their bottom.

So in the age group of the 20s and 30s, I would say IBS is very likely.

There are multiple causes of 'stomach' pain that are not related to the stools.

Upper abdominal pain can be due to

  • Gastric issues
  • Gallstones
  • Pancreatic causes
  • Liver causes

Lower abdominal pain can be due to

  • Bladder
  • Reproductive organs (in females)
  • Colon
  • Small intestine
  • Or even an Appendicitis

In short, there are multiple causes for 'stomach' pain and the consult with a specialist will help to narrow down the focus

What conditions could cause stomach pains that result in body numbness and feeling cold when standing up?

There are many causes for stomachache and most of them are transient and they go away with time or after a simple remedy. As far as I know, there is no direct relationship between a stomachache and those symptoms you listed above. However, if the numbness and cold feeling you experienced when standing up also makes you feel lightheaded or dizzy, you might have experienced a transient drop in blood pressure. Transient Drop in Blood Pressure Many people have experienced such transient blood pressure drop at one point or another. Most people would classify that as "fainting spells".

What are the causes of stomach pain without any stool issues?

Pain is a sensation one gets if there is excessive stimulation of sensory nerve endings in any organ. This excessive signals can be due to inflammation, injury, stretching or spasms/cramps. The stomach, being part of the digestive tract, has nerve endings which are sensitive to gastric acid and spasms. If there is excessive gastric acid production or abdominal cramps, one may experience abdominal pain. This pain may not be associated with any change in your stools. Another common reason is abdominal pain which originates from nearby organs, not within the stomach.
