What Causes Chronic Itchy Eyes?

Chronic itchy eyes may be due to one of several reasons:

  • dry eyes
  • allergic conjunctivitis
  • foreign bodies in the eye (e.g. in-turned eyelashes)
  • certain degenerative eye diseases like pterygium etc.

Treatment of Chronic Itchy Eyes?

The treatment for these conditions will depend on a proper diagnosis first and then targeted treatment, according to the diagnosis. The treatment may range from :

  • eye drops
  • in-clinic procedures
  • surgeries in the eye operating theatres.

For the most part, chronic itchy eyes are due to dry eyes and mild allergies. Over-the-counter eye drops for these conditions are usually readily available and reasonably helpful. If these simple measures still does not help, please seek a consultation with an eye doctor,
