What can I do to remove dents/scars from milia removal?

Doctor's Answers 1

Hi,

Small depressions from milia extraction will generally improve over the next 6-12 months due to collagen remodelling after injury.

If they remain after this period, the persistent scars may be improved by resurfacing procedures such as fractional lasers and fraction RF devices.

Will there be any scars after milia removal, and how long is the downtime?

Thank you for your question on milia removal and downtime. Milia is the medical term for dilated cystic glands which are found just under the skin surface. They are usually 1 to 2 millimetres in size. It is caused by trapped keratin (dead skin cells) that clog up the swear ducts. This condition is rather common in the lower eyelid and can also affect the upper eyelid, nose cheek and chin. I have replied previously to an enquiry on milia here. Some individuals are prone to milia but often it could be due to the use of skin care or creams which are too thick that leads to clogging of the pores.

How many years can breast implants last in our body and what are the risks of having implants?

Thanks for your question. While modern breast implants are very durable and safe, it’s important to realise that they are not expected to last a lifetime. According to some studies, rupture rates are initially very low and begin to increase about 6-8 years after implantation. The chances of implants rupturing and leaking then gradually increases over time. Although rates do vary, you can expect that after 10 years, there is an approximately 10% chance of implant rupture and leakage occurring. This does vary with the type of implant used.
