How old can women be before they must stop taking estrogen-containing contraceptive pills because of menopause?

Doctor's Answer

When does menopause usually occur?

The normal age of menopause can occur in women between the ages of 45-55 years old with the average age around 50-51.

Do I still need to take oral contraception during menopause?

The start of menopause is said to occur once a woman has not had a period for 1 year. Depending on when this has occurred, you cannot get pregnant. Hence there is no need to take oral contraception anymore.
