When are immediate implants required?

Doctor's Answer

For example, if you have an emergency which involves the loss of an upper front tooth. You know that if you lose the upper front tooth or several upper front teeth, it can be quite distressing.

If you have all these upper front teeth removed due to trauma or an accident, you can't smile, you can't go out and engage in any kinds of social situations.

In those cases, of course, bearing in mind the contraindications factors I've mentioned, I typically plan for immediate implants in those situations where we extract the upper front teeth and replace them with implants.

We not only replace them immediately but we also include immediate temporary crowns and temporary abutments.

So, when the procedure is done, and when the patient is sedated and wakes up, they will see that they have implants and teeth as a result of the immediate procedure. They usually appreciate that we can do the implants in a day rather than have a gap period where they have no teeth.

It's less important if you lose teeth at the back because it's harder to see that you have missing teeth at the back, so usually, if you lose teeth at the back it's not so critical to do immediate implants.
