What could be the cause of an electric like current radiating from my chest?

Doctor's Answer

You should go to see your GP.

The first thing that he will want to do is rule out possible cardiac causes (heart problems) eg. do you smoke, are you overweight, do you have high cholesterol, do you have a family history of cardiac disease, do you experience any chest pain on exertion etc.

He may also perform an ECG just to check that your heart rhythm is normal.

In the absence of a cardiac cause, these sensations you’ve described are very likely to be non-worrying – ie. electric current-like sensations are often described in patients with nerve problems, or musculoskeletal pain.

For these latter conditions, you can just take pain relief medication. They also tend to resolve on their own with time.

Cheers
