Hi UK med student – it’s a similar general process in both UK and Singapore.
There’s no “dedicated training pathway” in both countries, because it’s not a recognised specialty.
The most common way to go about gaining experience with aesthetic medicine in Singapore is:
- Pick up all your COCs (or certificate of competence) courses, which licenses and trains you to do various things such as Botox, lasers etc. This can be a 1-2 day workshop.
- Hone your initial skills at volume churning places.
- Train under more established aesthetic groups to learn more advanced techniques.
Similar to surgery, my take on aesthetic procedures is that it’s really an experience game – ie the more familiar and experienced you are with the various procedures, the more competent you become.
PS when you come back to Singapore, you’ll need to be attached to the public sector for 3 years to get full registration.
Cheers
