Does trigeminal neuralgia affect one’s lifestyle and diet?

Doctor's Answers 1

The triggers for many patients become clear over time. For many of them, it is about avoiding those triggers, so for many of them, they will not brush one side of their teeth or brush less and be gentle about it. When they are washing their face, they have to wash it carefully and, sometimes, they forget and they have a sudden attack or pain that sets as a trigger.

What is daily pain management of trigeminal neuralgia like?

Surgery is one of the options, the other options are Radiosurgery Radiation Injection. For patients who take tablets, we find that they have to take it a few times a day, the most common tablet is carbamazepine, for example, best taken 2-3 times per day, so patients have to be on this. Those patients who try to decrease the dosage, so they take one in the morning and when they know they are going to do something that brings the pain or feel that the pain is about to come, they will just take an extra tablet. Essentially, they are living tablet to tablet.
