I stopped Depo Provera for two months but I am still not getting pregnant. Is this a cause for concern?

Doctor's Answer

What is Depo Provera?

Depo Provera is a very effective form of injectable contraception. Its effects last for 3 months. After 3 months, it is advisable to get your next injection of Depo Provera as the effect of the contraceptive may be lost.

Effects of Depo Provera

For some women, fertility may not return immediately as it may take a longer duration of time for the body to get rid of the hormone and for spontaneous ovulation to return. This delay may even last for up to 6 months for some women.

When should I see a doctor?

If you are finding it difficult to conceive after stopping Depo Provera for 2 months, it may be a good idea to get your urine and blood tested to determine if you are spontaneously ovulating or not. If this is not the case, your gynaecologist can start you on some ovulation medication.
