Poorly controlled diabetes is a risk factor for poor wound healing, whether Type 1 or 2. Type 1 Diabetics are insulin dependent and require insulin administration for sugar control. Should the sugar levels be well controlled (hba1c <7%) , T1DM is not a contraindication for acne scar treatments. If poorly controlled, there is a higher risk of wound infection and poor healing and a overall poorer outcome.
