Why do my pigmentation spots appear darker after Q-Switch and V-Beam instead of lighter?

Doctor's Answers 1

Hi Jason,

There could be a bunch of possibilities, depending on your initial pigmentary issue. Most often lasering of pigmentation with any laser can potentially cause a post-inflammatory hyperigmentary (PIH) darkening of the area.

This can happen if slightly stronger or incorrect settings are used, or if you are just more prone to PIH formation (which most asians are).

As such, careful and gradual approaches should be sought in pigmentation management in Asians. Picosecond lasers tend to work best for pigmentation, with the least possible risk of PIH formation. Feel free to contact my clinic should you need more advice on the issue.

What are value-for-money options available to address facial pigmentation and how much do they cost?

Hi, Value-for-money options for addressing facial pigmentation focus on sun-protection and the use of proven lightening creams. The various effective lightening creams have been discussed in depth in the relevant section. However, there is a limit to how much lightening creams may lighten your pigmentation. For more difficult pigmentation that requires procedures to give more significant response, please discuss with your preferred aesthetic doctor your preferred options after a clear understanding of what they are, what they can achieve and what are the possible side-effects.
