Which procedures can be done in one surgery for a mommy makeover?

Doctor's Answers 3

Yes, a breast lift and tummy tuck can certainly be done in the same surgery.

The obvious advantage of that would be :

Cost savings - you will be almost doubling the facilities costs if you do them separately

One less general anaesthetic

Savings on "down time" - don't have to put aside time for recovery twice.

The other less apparent advantage are :

Scarless breast lift - if you only need a minor lift that can be achieved with a properly selected implant then your breast lift is scarless as it can be performed via the tummy tuck scar

Other procedures for less - tummy tucks are very often done with some liposuction. The fat from the liposuction can be used for grafting for face, breast or body contouring at very little extra expense

Tummy tuck with implant breast lift can be definitely done under 6 hours by a single surgeon. That said, it is still considered a long surgery as for as cosmetic surgery goes so you will need a proper assessment before surgery.

Hope this is helpful.

Best wishes

The term mommy makeover is used loosely to encompass some form of breast work (usually a breast lift or augmentation or a combination of both), a tummy tuck or body lift and some liposuction to affect an overall body contouring to return you to a pre-baby state.

However, these days it has also been combined with other procedures such as facial surgery (eyelids/facelift) or vaginal rejuvenation. The main priority whether these surgeries should be combined has to be safety. Other considerations include recovery time, costs and availability of social support to look after the baby during the recovery period.

I often perform the combination of tummy tuck and breast procedures for my patients in a single setting. This is usually safe in young and fit patients. Increasing we have also been adding liposuction and fat grafting for breast augmentation for our patients, instead of augmentation with silicone implants.

At our group practice, we believe that the length of a cosmetic procedure should never exceed four to six hours. Complications from surgery increase significantly when these numbers are exceeded. These include increased risks of infections, blood loss and complications from anaesthetisia. An experienced surgeon and surgical team that focuses on efficiency can help to minimize the length of the surgical procedure.

I often engage one of my partners who is also a plastic surgeon as a first assistant to help with this process when we perform mommy makeover surgery.

The advantages of this approach are obvious and include improved synergy and harmony which improves the overall aesthetic result. Patients experience one recovery and potentially save money when these procedures are done in combination. Nonetheless, combination surgery isn’t for everyone.

Some patients have coexisting health problems which make this approach unsafe. Meeting with a MOH-certified plastic surgeon will help sort this out and help formulate the best treatment plan for you.

I hope this helps to clarify your query and in your planning for surgery.

Have a nice day ahead!

The usual combination of procedures in a mommy makeover would include a tummy tuck (abdominoplasty) and a breast augmentation or lift. It’s possible to include other procedures as well, such as liposuction. However, it’s important to remember that risks do increase with longer procedures. A combination of a tummy tuck and breast surgery could take from 4-6 hours, and a stay in the hospital or facility may be required after such a lengthy procedure.

How effective is fractional Co2 laser vs Infini RF for acne scars?

Good questions! I agree with Dr Chua’s reply on the pros and cons of Fractional CO2 lasers versus Infini RF. In addition, I would like to address your question on the ideal length of time between subcision and Infini RF treatments. The ideal interval between treatments is 4-6 weeks. This is to allow for adequate skin recovery. Hope that this answers your questions!

Is PRP injection available for acne scarring in Singapore?

PRP at the present moment is not available in Singapore. It does help with acne scarring though, and you might have to go to neighbouring countries to do the treatment (including Malaysia). Having said that, you can consider Rejuran/skin boosters/microneedling that can help in a similar fashion. Your 2nd question on which is better — it depends on the severity and type of scars. But usually Fractional laser is the backbone of laser therapy. So consult your doctor early to discuss the available options.
