I’m sure you had your Hepatitis B titres done (and received your Hep B boosters, if necessary) before matriculating. Besides these, you won’t need any other further investigations throughout med school.

Before starting medical school, they also check for Hep C, HIV, and your immunisation status to mmr, varicella and pertussis.

Usually only Hep B is the problem because 50% of ppl don’t have enough antibodies, and some ppl need to get jabs for like 2 or 3 years.

On top of these, most med schools strongly encourage their students to get their annual flu jabs, both to protect yourselves and your patients!

Prior to starting your housemanship, you will be sent for another round of checkups and tests, just as you would before starting work in any other company. This includes a HIV test.

Is there any difference in doctors with FAMS qualification when it comes to treating severe acne?

Great question. Some of my answers below will be factual, and some will be personal opinions. Sorry for the verbose answer, as I hope that it will help other readers too. Fact: All doctors with FAMS are specialists, but not all specialists have FAMS. You need to first be a specialist, before applying to be a Fellow of the Academy of Medicine. Think of it like an exclusive members club, for specialists in Singapore. It is not a board certification, as they would have completed their “board specialty exams” by then.

Will stopping Isotretinoin therapy before reaching total target dose increase the risk of acne relapse?

If I were in your shoes, I’d definitely NOT stop taking isotretinoin until I’ve finished the course. Many studies have shown that the risk of acne relapse is much higher if you don’t complete the course. The total dosage you need to take depends on your BODY WEIGHT as well. Tapering your dosage wise, please speak to your doctor. Again, if I were you, I’d just stick to the dosage that he has placed you on, since it appears that you are not suffering any adverse effects (apart from dry lips, which is very common).
