What could be causes of an uncomfortable bite after fitting a dental crown?

Doctor's Answers 1

When a crown is new in the mouth, it will take a while to adapt to new bite. However, if it persists, the dental surgeon should be able to adjust the bite of the crown for the patient.

What is the best treatment for a cracked tooth?

Cracked teeth are in danger of splitting completely which can be extremely painful and once a tooth has split, it usually cannot be repaired any longer. A crown encircles the entire tooth and holds the fractured parts together even under biting pressure. This is the strongest and most reliable protection for a cracked tooth, especially since it can be very difficult to determine the true extent of the crack even using x-rays. Other options include onlays which are partial crowns.

Is it normal to experience pain and discomfort with hard foods and brushing teeth after root canal treatment?

Hi Yee Ham, I would say most patients take few days-weeks for proper healing of the tissues around the tooth. And even so, you should try not to use the tooth to eat hard food eg) nuts/ice etc. This is due to the fact that the tooth structure itself is already lessened, and forces overtime generates a wedging effect on the tooth, which may split it apart. Thus I would strongly advise you to avoid eating hard food as much as possible even after you have had your root canal treatment, as this would help to protect your tooth in the long run.
