What are recommended methods for permanent hair removal in darker skin tones?

Doctor's Answers 2

I agree with Dr Winston, definitely do not attempt IPL. Electrolysis can be very time consuming for large body parts as each hair follicle has to be treated individually, and it can be painful as well.

I would suggest Diode or Long Pulse ND:Yag for laser hair removal. It is much more efficient and painless.

All the best!

Please don't do IPL. It's very risky as the color difference between hair and body (or pigmentation and body) is the rationale for its therapeutic function.

I would suggest the option of Super Hair Removal. It is suitable for all skin types, dark toned skin included. It works via low fluency repetitive light pulses targeting the susceptible hair follicles.

This leads to an effective heat build up with no pain. There is also a cooling mechanism to ensure the surface of your skin stays cool and protected.

That might be a lot faster, and is also likely to be more cost effective. Hope that helps.

What is the difference between visiting a beauty spa or doctor clinic for hair removal in Singapore?

Hair Removal is not a simple procedure. It involves sophisticated assessment and decision making. I would strongly recommend going to a medical clinic for such procedures for a few reasons: 1) IPL or Laser hair removal are not a 100% safe procedure. There are some risks involved such as burns and scarring. It is also not suitable for everyone. To be safe, you should see a doctor to get a proper assessment and advice before undergoing the procedure. 2) Risk and complication management is an important part of aesthetic treatment.

What should I do next for rapid hair loss in a 29 year old female?

I would like to answer your query in parts: a) Gradual hair loss, for example, over a number of years, should be differentiated between rapid-sudden hair loss. If you have noticed progressive thinning of your hair, leaving your parting line and temple scalp more visible, it is possible that you are having female-pattern hair loss. However, if you notice sudden and rapid shedding of large amounts of hair, that could point to a different hair loss condition e. g. telogen effluvium Do note that these 2 different hair loss conditions can occur together.
