What affects your skin type?

Doctor's Answers 1

Skin type is very largely dependent on genetics. Some people are born with very good skin, some with acne-prone skin and some with very dry skin. Of course, environmental factors can also influence your skin type. If you are constantly using lots of products which are very harsh, or frequently washing your face that your skin becomes very dry and irritated, that can also affect the skin type.

Does the appearance of a rash on both forearms after a 6 weeks episode of fungus infection on my palms (both hands) warrant urgent attention?

Thank you for the question. It is difficult to determine the cause of your rashes from your description of the rash. There are other possible causes of the rash apart from a fungal infection such as eczema, contact dermatitis and even infection. It is best for you to see your doctor or dermatologist for a proper assessment and management.

How do I remove my jowls without affecting or losing my round cheekbones? Thank you!

The jowls and cheekbones are 2 separate areas of the face. The jowls refer to the drooping / sagging of the skin and cheek (buccal) fat around the lower face, causing a disruption in the otherwise smooth jawline. This can be due to a combination of factors like: loss of skin elasticity loss of volume due to ageing or sudden weight loss bony resorption ( reduced bone volume due to ageing) and lastly, laxity of the superficial musculoaponeurotic system (SMAS) The cheekbones aka Malar bones are bony landmarks on the face and this is usually genetically predetermined.
