How do I choose between ultherapy vs. ultraformer vs. face thread-lift for my sagging face?

Doctor's Answers 3

I personally would put the HIFU technology (be it Ultraformer or Ultherapy or other HIFU machines) together.

What I would advise my patient is that if there is significant sagging and laxity for a quick lifting effect, threadlift would be faster, albeit limited in its skin changing properties. Some practitioners would say that the PDO or PCL stimulates collagen etc, but if I consider the area affected by the threads to be minimal.

As such, I would still advise my patients to do HIFU in addition to threadlifts as there is an overall improvement of the skin laxity AND contouring due to the large areas affected by the treatment.

Thread-Lifts

Thread-lifts are usually performed on patients who are in their late 40s to 60s. The best results are seen in this age group.

If someone desires to have a uplifted and taut appearance with instant results and does not mind some pain, swelling or bruising for a week or two, thread-lift would be very suitable.

Ultherapy and Ultraformer

Both ultherapy and ultraformer treatments are suitable for people who are:

  • In their mid 30s to 50s
  • Patient
  • Want a non-invasive, no downtime method of achieving skin tightening.

Tightening of sagging skin by Ultherapy or HIFU is due to the stimulation of collagen contraction, formation, and remodelling.

This process takes 2-3 months and more evident lifting will be seen after 3 months. The uplifting effects on the face is very natural, however it cannot achieve the ultra-tight chiseled-like appearance that face thread-lifts can provide.

What factors should I consider before choosing the type of non-surgical facelifts such as HIFU and ultherapy?

Basically HIFU and Ultherapy are referring to the same technology. Ultherapy is the first and original HIFU technology used for the face and neck for skin tightening. HIFU is the generic technology of high intensity focused ultrasound. Since then, there are many different versions of HIFU being manufactured and sold to doctors.
