How to speed up the process of eczema healing on the leg? (photo)

Doctor's Answers 1

Thank you for the question.

The following steps can help to speed up the healing of eczema:

1. Use gentle soap-free cleansers and moisturise the skin regularly

2. Avoid picking and scratching at the rashes

3. Topical steroids creams will be helpful to reduce the redness and inflammation of the skin. Alternatively, there are also some non-steroid creams like topical calcineurin inhibitors that can be applied to reduce the inflammation.

4. Oral or topical antibiotics may be needed if there is a secondary infection.

5. Avoid triggers like heat and sweat and irritants.

If your rash is not better, it is advisable for you to see your doctor or dermatologist for a proper assessment so that the appropriate medications can be prescribed for you.

What are some over-the-counter medications that are able to remove eczema scars on my body?

Hi,Most of the time, the scratching to relieve the itch of eczema results in post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation and skin thickening. These so called “scars” will gradually resolve once you stop scratching and allow the skin to heal well. A regular use of moisturizers will facilitate the healing process. The marks make take many months to gradually fade, though. Hope this helps!

How to differentiate whether painful bumps on my feet is caused by dyshidrotic eczema or a fungal infection?

Dyshidrotic eczema presents with tiny vesicles or bubbles on the feet and/or hands and these can be very itchy and sometimes painful. This tends to be symmetrical and usually affects both feet and/or hands. Fungal infection usually presents with scaly rashes on the feet. However, they can also present with bubbles and vesicles and this is termed an id reaction. This can look very similar to dyshidrotic eczema. When in doubt, a fungal scrape can be done to confirm or rule out a fungal infection.
