Should I see a skin doctor for cystic acne on my cheek, or can I use OTC products?

Sounds like you’re having more of the oily, acne-prone skin type. For such skin type, please ensure the products you’re using have a line that states “non-comedogenic”. Usually the skincare regime for such skin is very specific, and I won’t recommend you to be too adventurous with trying other products. Papulex, Aknicare products are suitable cleansers, treatment lotions and non comedogenic moisturisers to use on a daily basis. They are very safe and effective for acne-prone skin. Other products that you are intending to try may be on your own risk basis.

Permanent solution? Roaccutane. Personally, I don’t subscribe to the scary effects that the internet and some doctors make it out as having, because there have been many good studies that show it is a very safe drug, if prescribed and managed appropriately. Having said that, spironolactone is also a very good choice in acne treatment for females, especially if you find that your acne is hormonal (happens cyclically, say around your periods), and occurs mostly at your jaw/chin/neck.
