How to differentiate whether painful bumps on my feet is caused by dyshidrotic eczema or a fungal infection?

Doctor's Answers 1

Dyshidrotic eczema presents with tiny vesicles or bubbles on the feet and/or hands and these can be very itchy and sometimes painful. This tends to be symmetrical and usually affects both feet and/or hands.

Fungal infection usually presents with scaly rashes on the feet. However, they can also present with bubbles and vesicles and this is termed an id reaction. This can look very similar to dyshidrotic eczema.

When in doubt, a fungal scrape can be done to confirm or rule out a fungal infection.

How to treat persistent blisters on the hands due to dyshidrotic eczema?

Thanks for the question. Dyshidrotic eczema is a form of eczema that presents as tiny bubbles on the hands and feet. The rash is often itchy and the tiny bubbles can become more confluent to form larger blisters. The rash can also be painful when the blisters burst and there are raw areas of skin. It is important to avoid harsh soap and detergents and irritants as this can further aggravate the rash. Topical steroids and moisturizers are often prescribed to reduce the inflammation and control the eczema. This should be able to control the eczema in most cases.

Why am I getting little white bumps on my tattoo? (photo)

Hi, The white bumps are likely milia (“oil” seeds) forming just beneath the skin. This may have occurred due to surface injury caused by the tattooing process. A close physical examination by your doctor is needed to confirm the diagnosis. After confirming the diagnosis, the milia may be removed by making a small nick on the skin and extracting the milia seed under topical anaesthesia. Hope this helps!
