Do dentists recommend dental implants or dentures for young people?

Doctor's Answer

Yes. Young people have more mobility in their hands, and implants are not high-maintenance when you can clean under them.

So when you’re young, implants are definitely not hard to maintain compared to other options. But if you’re older then it can really affect the way you clean. For example, you may be affected if you cannot really see that well anymore -- it really depends on the age of the patient.

If you’re young, I highly recommend that you use implants versus a denture, because if you do not restore the bone, the bone actually shrinks.

If you put an implant in, and you bite and chew on it, it actually stimulates the bone and the bone is maintained. If you lose your teeth at 20, then suddenly at 50 you decide to put implants, sometimes we do not have enough bone to anchor your implant in.

So, if you lose your teeth and you’re young, you’re medically fit, and you do not have any diseases, implants are highly recommended. But of course, that depends on a case-by-case basis and you need to see your doctor to discuss that.
