What are some food and supplements (e.g. collagen, vitamins) to avoid after the first and subsequent sessions of CO2 laser treatment?

Doctor's Answers 1

Hi,

In short, no.

Food and supplements generally do not affect healing after CO2 laser treatment in a healthy person with no underlying nutritional deficiency. Alcohol may cause flushing and make the post-laser redness more obvious. This may be disturbing to the patient so alcohol intake should be reduced.

More important factors that may result in poorer healing after CO2 laser treatment that should be avoided include UV exposure, smoking, early use of make-up before the skin has fully healed, unnecessary touching of the affected skin and picking on the scabs.

What supplements may improve brain function after an injury?

Many animal studies show that supplements have the potential for improving the effects of a brain injury but none have been shown to be of consistent benefit in human studies. Instead of focusing solely on supplements, it is important to talk about diet as well as most of our nutritional needs can be best obtained from food. May I suggest the following: 1. Increase dietary omega 3 DHA in diet and supplements. 2. Avoid sugar, alcohol, caffeine, stimulants, saturated/trans fats, highly salted foods 3.
