Does the lack of discomfort during Invisalign treatment mean that my teeth is not moving at all?

Doctor's Answers 2

Majority of patients will feel some sort of discomfort during the first few days of Invisalign treatment. Thereafter, the 'pain' will tend to subside before the next set of aligners.

I wouldn't be completely surprised if you do not feel any discomfort. First and foremost, some patients do have a higher threshold of pain, hence they do not feel anything during aligner treatment. No pain does not necessarily mean no movement. Sometimes it could be that the first few aligners put less pressure hence the level of discomfort is very low.

If you are able to move onto your next aligner seamlessly without too much discomfort, this means that your teeth are moving nicely. Lastly, if you are still unsure, then do check with your orthodontist who will be able to reassure you if things are moving nicely.

Hope that helps and good luck!

As long as the aligners are fitting well and are well seated, rest assured you have nothing to worry about!

I would have to agree with Dr Sylvia, we all have different pain thresholds and adapt differently to the aligners as it is something new. Some patients feel more discomfort than others, and others manage perfectly well. It also depends on the tooth movement planned for that particular aligner, some aligners may feel tighter than other if greater or more complex movements have been planned for those particular aligners.

Do check in with your orthodontist if you have any concerns, I'm sure he or she will be happy to address them. I always feel this is the best way to ensure your treatment goes smoothly.

All the best!

How do dentists determine the amount of space needed to fix an overbite? (photos)

The decision to extract, or not to extract, for any case depends on several factors, such as the facial and lip profile (e. g. are the lips protruding?) the amount of overlap or crowding of the teeth, how much the teeth are flared forward with respect to the bone, etc. Patients with a substantial overjet would more often have lips that unable to close due to the teeth which are sticking out. In situations like this, extractions will result in a more aesthetic or pleasing outcome.

How do clear aligner brands such as Zenyum, ClearSmile and MBrace compare against Invisalign?

As you have said, Zenyum is a very new clear aligner company. There is very little background information on the official website regarding the technology used for their treatment planning and aligner manufacturing. Zenyum appears to be a collaboration between local orthodontists and tech entrepreneurs. At the moment, there is no verifiable track record that is available for the public to see. I cannot tell you what software they are using for treatment planning.
