Is it possible to keep all my teeth aligned but create a front gap between my two front teeth to correct a slight underbite?

Doctor's Answers 1

Hi there,

It really depends on the extent of the underbite and the current position of the two front teeth. Mild underbites can be corrected by:

1) moving the lower teeth backwards (space is required)

2) moving the upper front teeth forwards (which creates spaces/gaps), OR

3) a combination of both.

Yes, it is possible to keep all your teeth aligned and for the upper front teeth to be pushed forward to be positioned over the lower front teeth. However, gaps will be created, which may not be aesthetic and may not be limited to simply the front 2 teeth if the teeth need to be pushed forward more. If the teeth are narrow in shape, placing some tooth coloured composite filling material can help to cover the gap. However, if the teeth are normal-sized or wide, the fillings would make the teeth look too wide and that would not be aesthetic.

If your intention is to only have a gap between the front 2 teeth, then the amount the teeth can be pushed forward is rather minimal, to prevent the gap from becoming too large and unaesthetic. A clinical assessment by an orthodontist or dentist would be able to advise you on the feasibility of such an option.

Hope this helps!

What procedure is best for closing a front tooth gap? (photo)

Hi, I would strongly recommend braces or clear aligners to close that gap to give you the best possible and most aesthetic result. There are two main methods to close a gap in the front: 1) Place a tooth coloured filling on the sides of the neighbouring teeth to fill up the gap - that would increase the size of the tooth. If you have narrow or smaller front teeth to start with, that could be a good option. If you have normal sized teeth, then placing a filling would make the teeth look too broad and unaesthetic.

What is the cost of Mbrace for relapsed crooked teeth after previous braces treatment?

Thanks for your question! The cost of MBrace aligners will differ from clinic to clinic. Some clinics will tailor a cost according to your treatment plan, whereas others will have a package price. Usually if you’ve had braces in the past and your teeth have relapsed (moved out of alignment), it is relatively simple to rectify and so generally this will reflect positively on the cost of your treatment. For MBrace, your doctor will need to provide an examination to assess suitability and to take some baseline records.
