I just want to be prepared...

Meet Lynn Toh, an experienced podiatrist in Singapore. She found her passion in podiatry because she was inspired by the podiatrist she consulted for her bunions.

People often think that podiatrists are only trained to fix ingrown toenails or give simple advice on footwear. However, that's untrue. They have to study the entire human body, with an emphasis on the lower extremity.

Some of the common conditions they treat include:

  • Ankle and foot injuries (sprains, deformity)
  • Bunions
  • Heel spurs
  • Hammer toe (when your toes bend and curl downwards instead of pointing forward)
  • In-grown toenails, corns, calluses

More often than not, the foot is the first place that shows signs of serious conditions such as arthritis, heart disease, and diabetes!

To find a real podiatrist in Singapore, you'd have to refer to the Podiatry Association webpage for a list of member podiatrists. Locally, there are no programmes catered for podiatry. All podiatrists have to attend overseas institutions to get an accredited degree.

Join her live AMA on Monday, 29 October, at 3:30 PM as she answers the questions you have about being a podiatrist in Singapore.

You can submit your questions to Lynn by leaving your comments at the following link: http://bit.ly/lynn-toh-podiatrist-ama.

Ask Lynn about:

  1. The training required to be a podiatrist in Singapore
  2. Different types conditions does a podiatrist treat
  3. The nastiest foot condition she has ever came across
  4. The strangest request that she has gotten from a patient
  5. How to select the best type of footwear for your feet
  6. Why ingrown toenails cannot always be treated at home
  7. What are the danger signs that we should look out for in our foot

I hope that you've found this guide useful, and perhaps gained more insight into the application process. Most of the admissions-related information (admin and logistics wise) can be found on the official NUS Faculty of Dentistry website.

To help yourself out, you should take note of what people look for when they look for a dentist.
