Editorial Policy

The goal of Human’s Editorial Policy is to support Our Mission to grow the world's expert health knowledge and make it accessible for all.

We seek to achieve this by working hand-in-hand with doctors who have a wealth of experience and insights to create the best page on the internet for any given health query — pages that are valuable and reusable resources for future patients and readers.

Human’s policies are constantly evolving. We are focused on developing policies that improve the site with clear rationale and enforcement.

Do note that all our content is for informational purposes and is not intended to be a substitute for professional medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment.

Always seek the advice of your physician with any questions you may have regarding a medical condition. Never disregard professional medical advice or delay in seeking it because of something you have read on Human.

1. Who We Are

Human is a curated online platform for trusted medical information that lets doctors provide definitive, expert answers to important health questions.

Human contributors comprise a team of over 200 doctors across a wide range of specialties. Find out more about our team of contributors here.

2. Writers and Contributors

You need to feel confident about the health choices you make. That’s why we only work with board-certified doctors with years of experience in their respective fields.

Every article’s doctor author is stated at the top of the page with a linked bio, which lists his or her credentials, education, and professional experience.

Doctors invited to participate are specifically selected for both their real-world experience and knowledge, as well as their ability to communicate complex information in a clear and helpful way.

For example:

  • Information about orthodontic treatment is provided by a board-certified orthodontist from the National Dental Centre. She also serves as a Clinical Lecturer at the National University of Singapore, and teaches in the NUS Master of Dental Surgery (MDS) Orthodontic Residency Training Programme.
  • Exercise and sports-injury related content comes from a board-certified Sport Medicine specialist from Khoo Teck Puat Hospital. He is also the Vice President for the Sports Medicine Association of Singapore (SMAS).
  • A board-certified psychiatrist —who was the founding President of the College of Psychiatrists and previously served as the Head of Department, Psychiatry, SGH — writes content related to depression and anxiety.

3. Quality Standards

Every piece of content you see has a doctor contributor behind it working to make sure that it is responsible, accurate, understandable and helpful.

Our contributors are subject to the Terms of Service, and balance the presentation of verifiable facts with their own professional perspectives. Opinions are clearly stated as such.

4. Ethics

We are committed to following HON's Code of Conduct.

Visitors to our site expect to find unbiased reviews and content about healthcare providers. We are committed to ensuring the integrity of the content our website provides, and the reviews congained in our website. To this end, we ask that all Human users ensure their reviews are:

Personal

Reviews must be written for and about healthcare providers by you or a family member strictly on your behalf.

Anonymous

To protect patient identity, our reviews are posted anonymously with only the location of the reviewer (city, state). Users may choose to append a display name. When selecting a display name, please keep in mind that it will be visible to the public. Please do not include personal medical information, or other personally identifying information in your display name or your reviews.

Factually Accurate

Please be factually accurate, as you assume responsibility for anything you post. While you are free to express your opinion, do not exaggerate or misrepresent your experience with your healthcare provider. Human does its best to protect the anonymity of its users, but you are responsible for the accuracy of your review or any content you post.

Specific

Reviews are most useful if they include specific descriptions about what you liked and didn’t like about your experience with your healthcare provider.

Relevant

Please make sure your reviews are relevant and appropriate. For example, reviews about matters that do not address the core of the patient experience are not appropriate.

Free of Inappropriate Content

Threats, harassment, lewdness, hate speech, defamatory, frivolous, vexatious, and other displays of bigotry or inappropriate content are strictly prohibited and will be removed from the Human website.

To ensure these guidelines are being followed, we may moderate all reviews and content posted on the Human website. Human reserves the right to remove posted content at any time for any reason or no reason from the Human website. We may edit or remove posted content for the following reasons:

  • Appropriateness of content (curse words, racism, spam, etc.)
  • Redaction of personal information that may expose confidential health care info
  • Deletion of reviews that do not appear to be left by an actual patient (fake reviews, self reviews, etc.)

Reviews of providers should only be written by Human users that have had an experience with the healthcare provider. Any healthcare provider found to have created, submitted, or induced fraudulent reviews shall be reported for violating variations of consumer protection laws. Healthcare providers found to have created, submitted, or induced fake reviews will be reported and may be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

Any attempts by a healthcare provider to boost his/her/their own reputation may be considered fraudulent. This includes:

  • Writing a review for him/her/themselves
  • Asking friends or relatives to write positive reviews
  • Pressuring a Human employee to remove a negative review
  • Offering incentives to patients in exchange for positive reviews
  • Hiring an optimization or third-party marketing organization, or anyone else to submit false reviews
  • Impersonating a competitor or patient in any way
  • Attempts by a provider to damage his/her/their competitors by submitting a negative review

6. Advertising Policy

To help us maintain the resources and tech improvements needed to continuously create quality content, we currently do a limited number of paid collaborations with health-related brands, doctors, medical institutions and other media platforms.

Paid collaborations allow us to cover our running costs and growth plans to help more people.

Apart from input about broad topic areas, we never allow sponsors to influence the content we create. Find out more here.
