How do psychiatrists help with gender dysphoria?

When a transgender consults a psychiatrist, the latter will take a psychiatric history from the patient with special attention on his/her gender history and make a diagnosis. There are no tests physical, chemical or psychological to confirm the diagnosis. The psychiatrist will discuss with the patient regarding the treatment options.
