Should I do laser or lip fillers first to lighten my darkened lips if I'm planning to do both?

Hi there! Lip augmentation is a delicate procedure which is meant to accentuate the natural curves of the lips and/or reverse the signs of ageing. This can be achieved with the use of well-placed fillers, injected in the correct plane and anatomical structures, whilst safely avoiding the blood vessels. Fillers are usually injected into the substance of the lip itself. Lasers are commonly used for the area above the lips for rejuvenation, pigment reduction, and/or hair removal. They are not commonly performed on the red or mucosal portion of the lip.

How to choose a good plastic surgeon for liposuction in Singapore?

Hi there, Thank you for your question. Liposuction is a cosmetic procedure that should be performed by a well trained, board-certified plastic surgeon (this can be found on the Singapore Association of Plastic Surgeons website saps. org. sg). In addition to this, they should be accredited by the Ministry of Health to perform liposuction (list is available from the MoH website). Once you have determined that your plastic surgeon is accredited, you can then research his profile to determine his experience and expertise, as well as the technique of liposuction he/she performs.

Where can I get forehead lowering surgery or hairline advancement surgery in Singapore?

Hi there! Forehead lowering surgery and hairline advancement surgery should be performed by a qualified, accredited, board-certified plastic surgeon. These procedures are often performed in isolation or as part of forehead rejuvenation/lift, and require intricate knowledge of the anatomy to reduce the risk of nerve or vessel damage. Also, delicate plastic surgery techniques, such as hiding the hairline incision and plastic surgical suturing, need to be performed to minimize the appearance of scars. Hope this helps!

How do I know if I have ptosis?

Hi there! Ptosis, or blepharoptosis, is a condition of the upper eyelids where the upper eyelid margin is droopy and covering a large portion of the cornea of the eye. To determine if you have ptosis, you will first need to measure your marginal reflex distance (MRD1), which is the distance of the upper eyelid skin margin from the point of light on the pupil when looking straight towards a light source. Clinical ptosis is a MRD1 of 2mm and less.

Can threadlifts around the nose come off after blowing my nose?

Hi there and thank you for the question. Threadlifts are usually performed with some form of barbed suture. This ensures engagement within the tissues placed. After some time, the material from the thread is integrated into the normal tissue. This enables security of the thread. While is is theoretically possible for threads to shift slightly right after they are placed, it is highly improbable that they would ever be moved significantly without some form of surgical intervention. Hope this helps!

How do I remove lower cheek fat near the corner of my mouth?

Hi there and thanks for the question. Lower cheek fat can arise from the tissue under the skin, or from deeper structures such as the buccal fat pad. The buccal fat pad is an extension of a deep fat pad that communicates with the temple region, and can be prominent in the cheek either due to excess, or due to the ageing process as the fascia holding the fat pad becomes lax. Occasionally, laxity of skin can also masquerade as fat in the cheek due to descent of the facial tissues. Very occasionally, cheek fullness can be due to a growth such as a lipoma.

How many HIFU treatments are needed for fat reduction?

Hi there, HIFU stands for High Intensity Focused Ultrasound and is a technology whereby ultrasonic waves are used at specific a specific power and depth to incite controlled injury and inflammation to tissue. Its specific use in aesthetics is for collagen formation stimulation in the fascial layers of the face and body, creating a lift in the fascial layer. This is how a non-surgical face-lifting effect occurs. A secondary effect has been reduction of fat, due partly to the lift effect and partly due to fat cell destruction. This is usually more obvious in thinner patients.

What is the best treatment for droopy breasts?

Hi there and thank you for the question. Droopy breasts are due to a combination of volume loss (glandular loss) and loose skin (think about a long-inflated balloon that has lost some gas). The medical term is ptosis, and can be classified according to the position of the nipple and glad of the breast in relation to the inframammary fold. Ptotic breasts are managed by addressing the gland and the skin through various techniques including: augmentation, augmentation mastopexy, or mastopexy (breast lift) alone.

Is fasting required before Liposuction?

Hi there, Thanks for your question. Fasting before any surgery, liposuction included, is dependent on whether the procedure requires heavy sedation or general anaesthesia. If this is planned, you should not have anything to eat or drink for the 8 hours preceding the procedure. You can, however, have small sips of water if you need. If the procedure is done under light sedation or local anaesthesia only, you are usually not required to fast. Hope this helps!

What are the surgical options to fill in a dent in my skull from an old injury?

Hi there, For an old skull injury which is stable, the dent or defect can be filled in using various methods, including autologous tissue (your own - e. g. fat / dermal / bone grafts) or non-autologous products (manufactured - e. g. calcium hydroxyapatite, hyaluronic acid fillers). Each of these has it's pros and cons, and involve either minimally invasive approaches or open surgical approaches. The assessment of the most appropriate treatment method/s will also depend on the extent of the defect. It would be best to get assessed by a plastic surgeon to discuss what's best for you.

When do I need to get double eyelid surgery on the other eye if ptosis correction gives me a double eyelid on one eye?

Hi there, If you've had ptosis correction on one eye which has led to the formation of a double eyelid, there generally tends to be a period of 6-8 weeks required for the swelling to settle down before seeing what the final result is like. This way, if you desire symmetricalizing procedures to the other upper eyelid, you can then be assessed for the most appropriate procedure during this time. Hope this helps.

When can I benefit from buccal fat removal to make my face more symmetrical and contoured? (Photo)

Hi there, Buccal fat pad removal is one way of obtaining a more contoured, slimmer facial appearance. However, you need to be seen by a plastic surgeon to discuss your goals and the procedures required to achieve these. While fat removal is one way of contouring the face, there are also other techniques affecting structures such as the bone, muscle, fascia and skin. Other techniques include: Botox, Fillers, Fat grafting, Threads, Surgical procedures with or without the use of implants. Hope this helps!

What are the best treatments for ptosis in Singapore, and is ptosis Medisave claimable?

Treatment of diagnosed upper eyelid ptosis almost always requires surgery. While there are many options, including incisional and non-incisional procedures, the best treatment varies between individuals and would require a thorough assessment. This includes examining the various structures making up the upper eyelid including the skin, fat and muscle, assessing the marginal reflex distance (MRD1), testing your visual fields and levator function, and determining whether any brow drooping is present. Surgical procedures would then be aimed at correcting abnormalities based on the assessment.
