In 1990, A/Prof Ng got his medical degree at the National University of Singapore (NUS) then trained at the Neurosurgical Unit at Addenbrookes Hospital in Cambridge University. The next year, he got the inter-collegiate FRCS (Surgical Neurology) and received the prestigious Norman Dott Medal for excelling at the FRCS examinations.
Dr Ivan led the Neurosurgical Department at Tan Tock Seng Hospital and Singapore General Hospital (SGH) under the National Neuroscience Institute from 2006-2012. He also held the co-director position for the Brain and Behavior programme at the Duke-NUS Graduate Medical School from 2007-2013. A man of firsts, he held a pioneering leadership as the director of the Khoo Teck Puat NNI Integrated Neuroscience centre at SGH. Other leadership positions he has held include being the Chairman, Chapter of Neurosurgeons, College of Surgeons Singapore and Vice President of the Asian Congress of Neurosurgeons.
Dr. Ng is also on the World Federation of Neurological Surgeons International Education Faculty, was on the executive committee of the International Cerebrovascular Society and the Asia-Oceanic Skull Base Society. Presently, he is an Associate Editor of CNS Oncology and on the editorial board for the Asian Journal of Neurological Surgeons.
