What should I do if my teeth are shifting 1 year after braces treatment?
You are recommended to visit your orthodontist so that he/she can do a detailed check for you. One of the common reasons for a relapse is the lack of frequent retainer wear. It is of utmost importance to wear one's retainer after orthodontic treatment. I always tell my patients that "retainers are for life". If we want absolutely straight teeth, some sort of retainers may be required semi permanently. If the shift is mild, a few sets of aligners can be used to fix it. However, if the shift is significant, then a retreatment may be required to realign the teeth to the desired position.
Do I have to extract my wisdom teeth before Invisalign?
That depends on the position of your wisdom teeth. If the position of your wisdom teeth does not affect treatment, we can usually leave them in. If your treatment requires molar distalization (molar teeth to be moved), then the wisdom teeth will need to be removed. Do consult your orthodontist so that he/she can have a thorough examination of your dental condition (clinically and radiographically) and advise accordingly.
Is Invisalign suitable for kids?
While there is no age limit for Invisalign (my youngest Invisalign patient is 8 years old), there are a few prerequisites before treatment can take place: Eruption of all permanent incisors and first molars No significant tooth damage or decay Discipline to wear aligners for at least 20 hours a day (including brush after every meal before wearing the aligners) Invisalign aligners are removable, therefore it is much easier for kids/teens to maintain good oral hygiene, play sports and look good at the same time.
What are possible solutions to straighten an impacted molar tooth? (photo)
there are different solutions to straighten your teeth. They include metal braces with stainless steel brackets, metal braces with ceramic (tooth-coloured) brackets, and Invisalign (clear aligners). It can either be partial braces or on one jaw only, and that depends on what is required. We generally need to do a clinical examination of your teeth, x-rays and photos in order to provide a treatment plan. This is done during your first visit.
What should I do if I have braces on, but have not gone back to see my dentist in 2 years? (photo)
from the photo attached, the initial assessment reveals that you require extractions on the upper jaw. Your gums also need to be examined as it seems reddish, signalling gum issues. It is advised that you go for a thorough cleaning first to remove the plaque and tartar. If left untreated, gum disease may worsen and cause bone loss on the lower jaw. We generally require a clinical examination of your teeth, x-rays and photos in order to provide a treatment plan. This is done during your first visit.
