How is anal fistula treated in Singapore?

Hi there, There are many ways to deal with anal fistula and it depends on the type of fistula and the cause as well. In short, most fistulas are able to be adequately treated by a simple surgery called fistulotomy. However, there is a need to see a doctor for an accurate diagnosis and pre-operative investigations before the treatment can be individualised.

How to treat anal fissures, and when do I need to seek help?

Most anal fissures are classified into 2 main types. Acute and Chronic. For acute fissures, topical treatment is highly effective and is usually prescribed by primary healthcare physicians. Chronic anal fissures on the other hand, are more amenable to surgery. Most patients with anal fissures will have pain and should seek at least a consult first to confirm the diagnosis of fissure. I hope this helps and I wish you all the best for your treatment!
